Ottawa, ON – Matt Jeneroux, Conservative Shadow Minister for Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, and Alain Rayes, Quebec Lieutenant and Conservative Shadow Minister for Official Languages, issued the following statement in response to statistics released today by the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA):
“With the release of today’s report, it’s clear that the dream of homeownership is being pushed further away as the price of homes skyrocket.
“Month after month, the housing crisis in Canada continues to get worse. Home prices in Canada are 25 per cent higher than they were this time last year. Since Justin Trudeau formed government, home prices in Canada have gone up by 60 per cent and they continue to spiral out of control.
“Justin Trudeau has had six years to fix this issue, but it has only gotten worse under his watch. This month, Canada’s Conservatives put forward solutions to address the rising cost of homes and instead of working with opposition Members for the benefit of all Canadians, the Liberals voted against it.
“Canadians who are worried about being able to afford rent, or owning a home, can’t afford more of the same failure from Justin Trudeau. Canada’s Conservatives will continue to stand up for Canadians and ensure that the dream of homeownership and an affordable place to live can be a reality for Canadians.”
