FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, issues the following statement to mark Diwali:
“Today, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists in Canada and around the world celebrate the Festival of Lights, Diwali. This festival is an occasion for rebirth and rejuvenation; to reflect on the triumph of good over evil, hope over despair, and the uplifting of spiritual darkness.
“Traditionally, Diwali is observed by lighting diyas while streets and temples are embellished with garlands and light displays. Families and friends across Canada have decorated their homes today with bright, colourful lights as they gather together for meals and firework displays to mark this significant occasion.
“As Canadians across the country come together to partake in Diwali celebrations, we remember the active engagement, vibrancy, and continued contributions of the South Asian community to our great country. We are reminded by this festival to be thankful for our blessings and to focus on our shared commitment and hope for prosperous year ahead.
“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I extend my heartiest greetings to all those celebrating for a joyous and illuminating Diwali!”
