Greetings from the Leader of the Official Opposition
January 6, 2016
OTTAWA – On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I offer my warmest wishes to all Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics marking Christmas according to the Julian calendar. This is a special time to gather with friends and family to embrace the Christmas spirit. In Canada, we are reminded of the good fortune we share to live in a country that values the right to practice our faith in peace and security. As we celebrate our many blessings, we are more aware than ever that not everyone among us is fortunate enough to share in them. This is a time to look beyond the differences that pull us apart and reaffirm the values that unite us as Canadians: compassion, kindness, generosity and charity. On Parliament Hill, we are proud that the Christmas lights along Confederation Boulevard, including the parliamentary precinct, are aglow on January 7 in recognition of our vibrant Orthodox Christian and Eastern Catholic communities. I wish you a joyful Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year.
