Ottawa, ON – Dan Albas, Conservative Shadow Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, the Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Natural Resources and Energy, and Alain Rayes, Conservative Shadow Minister for Official Languages and Quebec Lieutenant, issued the following statement in response to today’s alarming reports issued by the Environment and Sustainable Development Commissioner:

“We have been saying for years that Liberal plans do not match Liberal rhetoric and today, the Environment Commissioner confirmed that. In their report, the Commissioner stated that climate change targets have not been backed up by strong plans and that the Liberal commitments were not met with action.

“Additionally, the Commissioner found that the federal government failed to work with other levels of government. Canadians cannot afford flashy announcements without substance. The Liberals have failed to meet their emissions targets, and even the Commissioner can’t figure out how they will do it in the future.

“The finding that the Natural Resources Canada’s Emissions Reduction Fund was so poorly designed that the funding may have actually led to an increase in carbon emissions is ridiculous. We urgently need policies that incent the continued development of low carbon energy and carbon reduction.

“Canada’s Conservatives will continue to fight for a plan that prioritizes provinces, communities, and workers to ensure that people can live in a country with a secure climate future. We can address both climate change and secure the future for workers.”
