OTTAWA – In response to the Liberal Government’s decision to drop the appeal seeking to rescind bail for Omar Khadr, the Official Opposition Critic for Public Safety, the Honourable Erin O’Toole issued the following statement: “We are disappointed by this decision. “Public safety remains a top priority for the Conservative Party and the experience of the Khadr family shows that radicalization in Canada can lead to risks at home and abroad. “We have yet to see the level of denunciation of past conduct and remorse regarding the killing of Sgt. Christopher Speer that we feel is required to show that bail is appropriate in this case. Until that time, we believe Omar Khadr should continue to serve his sentence.”
