OTTAWA –The Hon. Rona Ambrose, Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party announced today that the Hon. Denis Lebel, Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec will serve as Deputy Leader. Andrew Scheer, Member of Parliament for Regina-Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, will serve as the Official Opposition House Leader. Mr. Scheer’s appointment will take effect Dec. 3. “Denis and Andrew have the experience needed to create and help lead a new Official Opposition. In the coming days I be presenting to Canadians a Shadow Cabinet, focused on earning the trust of all Canadians,” said Ms. Ambrose “Denis and Andrew bring not only a wealth of intelligence and Parliamentary experience, but they bring the right tone, in helping build a strong, vigorous but respectful Opposition.” “I am excited and looking forward to my new role as Deputy Leader,” said Mr. Lebel. “As the former Quebec lieutenant, I bring a unique perspective and am proud our party has more Members of Parliament from Quebec than ever before. I will bring my experience and knowledge into this new challenge, as we work together as Conservatives to provide a real alternative to the current Liberal government.” Mr. Scheer continued, “I am honoured to be taking on the role of House Leader for the Official Opposition. Having spent the last four years as Speaker of the House of Commons, and Deputy Speaker prior to that, I am used to working constructively with Members of Parliament from all parties.
