Conservative Petition Supporting Canadian Firearms Owners Becomes Second Largest e-Petition in Canadian History
January 17, 2020
An online petition, launched in December 2019 and sponsored by Glen Motz, Member of Parliament for Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner and Associate Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, that opposes the Liberals’ plan to ban ‘military-style assault rifles’ through an Order in Council has become the second largest e-petition in Canadian history.
In less than a month, the petition has garnered over 86,000 signatures, making it clear that Canadians oppose the Liberals’ proposal to strip law-abiding Canadians of their legally purchased property without doing anything to actually address rising gang and gun violence.
“Current and former police officers I have spoken with consider these types of proposals pointless,” said MP Motz, a former police officer with the Medicine Hat Police Service. “Criminals don’t follow the law and will not be turning in their guns. The only people who will be impacted by the Liberal plan are law-abiding Canadians who are hunters, farmers, and target shooters.”
Motz added, “Canadians have been clear – they want us to go after gangs, criminals, and illegal firearms. While the Trudeau Liberals continue their reckless spending and put forward policies that divide Canadians and do nothing to increase public safety, Conservatives will focus on what matters to Canadians.”
Concerned Canadians have until February 15, 2020 to sign the e-Petition, which can be found here: https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2341
