The Conservative Party’s Leadership Election Organizing Committee has announced the next debate moderator and the debate themes as well as the next host city for the official leadership debate series. The debate moderator for the next debate on January 17th in Québec City, Québec, will be Pascale Déry. Ms. Déry has spent over 15 years as a journalist and news anchor with TVA and LCN. During her career, Pascale hosted several debates and forums in CEGEPs and universities as well as several charity benefit events. Most recently she was also a candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada in the 2015 election. She now serves as Senior Advisor, Communications, Current Affairs for the Montreal Economic Institute. “Ms. Déry brings a wealth of experience to this first French language debate,” said Daniel Nowlan, chair of the Leadership Election Organizing Committee. “Her experiences as a journalist and political candidate make her a great fit for the role, and having hosted similar forums and debates previously gives her an added advantage and perspective that will not only serve our members well, but also any interested Canadian following this important process.” The Québec City debate will cover two themes – Government and Taxes, and National Security and Defence. The Leadership Election Organizing Committee also announced the location and date of the fourth Leadership debate. Edmonton, Alberta will host our second bilingual debate on February 28th, 2017 at the Maclab Theatre. Tickets will go on sale for this debate on January 24th, 2017. “With our Edmonton debate scheduled to take place after our filing deadline, it will be an important one for our members and Canadians to best inform their choice, featuring only the candidates that will be allowed on the ballot in May,” said Nowlan. “Choosing the next Conservative leader will be an important part of Canada’s future, and we’re proud to provide these platforms as part of the process in making that choice.” All debates will be streamed live online for Conservative members and all Canadians to see. There are five party sanctioned debates total that all official leadership candidates are expected to attend. The remaining details on Edmonton as well as the details on the final debate, the format, exact location, and further timing details will be announced at a later date. All debates will be open for Conservative Party members to attend.
