OTTAWA, ON – The Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, the Hon. Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Asian Heritage Month:

“Today marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month in Canada – an official recognition of the achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent.

“Canadians of Asian descent have made and continue to make a great impact on the social and economic fabric of Canadian society. Throughout the month of May, various festivals and cultural events will be taking place across the country to celebrate and reflect on the rich history and profound accomplishments of Asian Canadians.

“From traditional music, dances, and works of literature to authentic cuisine, all Canadians can experience the impact and effects that Asian culture has on our country. Asian Canadians continue to play leading roles in our society, including in business, politics, medicine, and many other fields.

“Asian Heritage Month also serves as a reminder of our compassion and the importance of our freedom in Canada. Today’s Canada is home to many persecuted minorities, refugees who have fled Communist and other oppressive regimes, and hard-working immigrants building a better life for themselves and their children. Canada is proud to be home to such a large and vibrant Asiancommunity and we are grateful for their immense contributions to our country.

“On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I wish all celebrating a very happy Asian Heritage Month!”
