Our Commitment to Protecting Your Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. The Conservative Party (denoted as “we”, “us”, and “our”) will respect your privacy through the protection of any of your personal information that you provide to us. We take great care to keep both confidential and secure all personal information in our possession.
As a federal political party registered under the Canada Elections Act, the Conservative Party, including its electoral district associations (“riding associations”), candidates, nomination contestants, and leadership contestants are subject to extensive regulation under that Act, including in particular public disclosure requirements for contributions over $200.
What is “Personal Information”
“Personal Information” is information about an identifiable individual provided through the app. Personal Information includes name, email address, phone number, and other individual information.
Providing Personal information
You may choose to provide us with personal information on a voluntary basis, from the account registration process on the CPC app or with the use of the app. Information provided during the registration process may include login information such as username, password, and security questions and answers. After registering an account, you may also choose to provide profile information, including your age, gender, profile image, etc.
We may also collect other “non-identifiable” information about you, such as demographic information (e.g., your age) or certain information about your preferences and interests. If we combine demographic or other non-identifying information we collect about you that allows you to be identified, we will treat the combined information as Personal Information.
We may also collect geolocation information provided by your phone or other mobile device insofar as you allow this option on the App. If you access the CPC app through a mobile device, you may adjust the settings on your mobile device to allow or prevent the sharing of location information.
Information You Disclose Through the CPC App
The CPC app may allow you to transmit or share certain content or text messages via the platform. You should note that other people may be able to view your content once it has been transmitted through, or uploaded to, CPC app, and may use or share it with third parties.
Collection of Web Data
We use “cookies” to store session information. A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, which is sent to your browser from a website’s computers and stored on your computer’s hard drive. If you disable these cookies, you may still use the CPC app, but your ability to use some areas of our site, such as contests or surveys, will be limited.
We may gather certain standard website traffic information automatically and store it in log files. This information includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, date/time stamp, and clickstream data.
We use this information, which does not identify individual users, to analyze trends, to administer the site, to track visitors’ and users’ movements around the website and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole.
Usage of Personal Information
As a political party, we believe it is important to communicate with Canadians on a regular basis. We will use information received through the CPC app to provide our services and communicate with you.
As a national organization with a riding-based membership system, your personal information may also be disclosed to our local riding associations, candidates, nomination contestants and leadership contestants who may also communicate with you.
Protecting Your Personal Information
We maintain security systems to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure or misuse, and from loss or unauthorized alteration.
Employees of the Conservative Party of Canada are trained on the appropriate use of personal information. This training emphasizes appropriate collection, maintenance and use of personal data.
We will not sell your personal information that you have chosen to provide us. We will take every reasonable precaution to protect your privacy and personal data.
Retention of Personal Information
We will archive your Personal Information for as long as necessary to enable your use of the CPC app. You may choose to delete information from your account or delete your account entirely. However, please note that messages sent by you to others on or through the platform may be retained by us or by the recipient of such messages, and we may need to retain certain information for our business records.
We are required by law to keep records of donors for tax purposes.
