Success in Libya: Honouring Canada’s Men and Women in Uniform

November 24, 2011

On Thursday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper celebrated the members of our Canadian Armed Forces who took part in Operation Mobile, part of the NATO-led mission in support of the Libyan people.

The men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force were instrumental in protecting civilians from the violence of the Gaddafi regime. The NATO mission, Operation Unified Protector, and particularly Canada’s contribution to it, was a great military success.

The Prime Minister also specifically congratulated Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard for his vital role leading the NATO mission in Libya.

This success proves again how Canada continues to punch above its weight in world affairs.

Canada is proud to have supported the aspirations of the Libyan people for a brighter future, and will continue to support Libya as it works to establish freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
