Scrapping the Long-Gun Registry
February 15, 2012

On Wednesday, Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, encouraged all Members of Parliament to vote in favour of the Ending the Long-Gun Registry Act.

The Harper Government has always stood with law-abiding farmers, hunters and rural Canadians in every region of the country.

For too long, the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry has needlessly and unfairly targeted law-abiding Canadians, while doing nothing to reduce crime or strengthen our efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Not to mention, the registry has wasted taxpayers’ dollars. This money could have been better spent cracking down on real criminals, not law-abiding farmers and hunters.

Members of Parliament will face a final vote on the Ending the Long-Gun Registry Act in the House of Commons on Wednesday. We hope all Members will do the right thing and put this wasteful and ineffective bureaucracy to rest for good.

The Harper Government will continue to take action to help keep our streets and communities safe by getting tough on real criminals, not law-abiding Canadians.
