Protecting Children from Internet Crime
February 14, 2012

On Tuesday, the Harper Government reintroduced the Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act.

The Harper Government is committed to working for the safety and security of children in Canada.

While technology has advanced significantly over the past few decades, the legal frameworks and police investigative tools used in the event of a crime associated with it have not kept pace.

Tuesday’s announced Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act will allow our Government to help ensure that criminals, sexual predators, gangs and terrorists cannot exploit technology to hide their illegal activities.

This proposed legislation would give law enforcement the modern investigative tools needed to help protect our children from online pornography and exploitation.  It would also strengthen and add new safeguards to protect the privacy of Canadians.

Conversely, this bill will not allow the Government to monitor Canadians’ private conversations, web surfing or emails.

The Harper Government is working to help keep children safe on the internet and in our communities.
