It’s time for the Liberals and Bloc to support Bill C-30

Environment Minister John Baird today appeared before the House of Commons Legislative Committee, where he called on members of the opposition to work with Canada’s New Government to pass Canada’s first-ever Clean Air Act.

Bill C-30, Canada’s Clean Air Act, sets in motion Canada’s first comprehensive and integrated approach to tackle air pollution and greenhouse gases by:

• Enabling integrated regulatory actions for air pollutants and greenhouse gases;
• Regulating products that affect indoor air quality;
• Requiring the Ministers of the Environment and Health to establish national air quality objectives;
• Enabling Canada to achieve 5% renewable fuels content in the next 3 years;
• Improving the Government’s ability to regulate fuel efficiency; and
• Allowing the Government to set energy efficiency standards.

In spite of the clear benefits of Canada’s Clean Air Act, opposition parties continue to delay action in Committee, preferring instead to pass meaningless resolutions in the House of Commons.

Canadians do not want more empty Liberal promises. Canadians want a practical, affordable plan that gets results.
 
It’s time for the opposition parties to put the best interests of Canadians ahead of partisan politics and work with the government to pass Canada’s first ever Clean Air Act.
