Conservative Leaders Support Energy East Pipeline
February 10, 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA, ON – Official Opposition Leader Rona Ambrose along with the Leaders of the four Atlantic Progressive Conservative parties: Jamie Baillie of Nova Scotia; Bruce Fitch of New Brunswick; Jamie Fox of Prince Edward Island; and Paul Davis of Newfoundland and Labrador, today issued the following statement, criticizing the lack of Liberal support for the Energy East pipeline:
“Atlantic Canadians know the true value of vibrant energy sectors. They deserve a Prime Minister who supports Canadian industry and Premiers who know how to fight for good jobs. Atlantic Canada’s Liberal Premiers need to send a strong message to Prime Minister Trudeau that they support the Energy East pipeline and the thousands of jobs that will be created in the region as a result of this important project.
“Canada’s economy is in serious trouble and now political posturing by the Liberals in Ottawa is putting it at further risk. At exactly the same time as thousands of Canadians are losing their jobs in the resources sector, the Liberal Government is creating red tape, impeding the Canadian energy sector from getting oil and energy resources to market in the safest way possible. In fact, all Canadian premiers and territorial leaders agreed in 2015 that Canada needs the infrastructure to move energy to market. Energy East is an important piece of the puzzle.
“Conservatives at both the federal and provincial level will always stand up for Canada’s natural resources sector and the hardworking men and women whose livelihoods depend on it.”
