Ignatieff's Hypocrisy on Kelowna Accord
October 23, 2006
Today, Liberal leadership candidate Michael Ignatieff (Etobicoke-Lakeshore) laid out his “aboriginal strategy” and insisted that he wants to bring back the Kelowna Accord (CP, October 23, 2006).  This is an interesting promise from Ignatieff, given that he has twice skipped votes in the House of Commons on the Kelowna Accord.  If he supports the Accord so much, why didn’t he bother to show up in the House of Commons to support it?:

The facts:
  • On June 20th, Ignatieff skipped the vote on the Liberals’ own motion on the Kelowna Accord. (Division No. 22)
  • On October 18th, Ignatieff skipped the vote last night on the Liberals’ own Private Members’ Bill on the Kelowna Accord, Bill C-292 (Division No. 45)
  • Despite missing the vote, Ignatieff was able to issue a statement to criticize Canada’s New Government on the Kelowna Accord (CP, October 19, 2006).
  • If Ignatieff is willing to attack others for not voting for the Kelowna Accord, why didn’t he bother to show up to support it himself?
