$1.5 billion for national Eco-Trust initiative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, joined by Quebec Premier Jean Charest, today announced that Canada’s New Government will provide Quebec with $349.9 million -- part of a new $1.5 billion Canada EcoTrust for Clean Air and Climate Change to assist all provinces in funding projects that will result in cleaner air and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The Government of Quebec has indicated that it will use the Canada EcoTrust funding to move forward on several provincial projects which may include:
Canada’s New Government is already taking concrete action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution by committing to implement aggressive regulations to reduce green house gas emissions and air pollution in all sectors. New provincial initiatives across Canada supported by the Canada EcoTrust will complement those efforts. Resources for the Canada EcoTrust for Clean Air and Climate Change will consist of $1.5 billion of new funding from the upcoming federal budget and will be available on a nationwide basis once the budget is approved by Parliament. This funding will form part of the actions to be taken to address the fiscal imbalance. By practicing a federalism of openness and by working together with the provinces, Canada’s New Government is getting things done for all Canadians. |
