Olympic Torch Comes To Canada
October 30, 2009

On Friday, the Olympic Torch officially landed in Canada.

A universally recognized symbol of the Olympic spirit, the torch’s arrival marks a defining step in our duties to host the world in Vancouver this February.

From coast to coast to coast, Canadians will have the opportunity to take part in the longest Olympic Torch Relay to ever take place in a single country.

The Olympic Flame will travel by land, air and water during its 106-day journey. As it heads towards Vancouver, it will visit more than 1,000 communities.

Over 90 per cent of Canadians will be within one hour’s drive of the Olympic Torch’s route to the games. Our Conservative government is encouraging all Canadians to show their Olympic spirit and support our athletes by going out to watch the Torch pass through their community.

The Olympics will bring Canadians and the world together. It promises to be an exciting time as we join our friends and families in cheering on our athletes as they go for the gold here at home.

The Conservative government is proud to support our athletes as we all prepare to host the world at the Vancouver 2010 Games.
