I grew up in Diamond City in a family of nine children. My parents raised me with an appreciation for the value of hard work.
I married my high school sweetheart and still remember the day we bought our first house. The mortgage payments were $261 each month and, like so many families, I was very nervous about making ends meet for my family. Today, we have two children and four energetic grandchildren.
I have been proud to serve the people of our large, beautiful riding over the years, first as a firefighter, then on the Picture Butte Town Council, and eventually as mayor. I have been honoured to serve as our riding’s MP since 1997.
Politicians need to take more time to listen to the people who matter and I have always tried to ensure that the needs of all my constituents are heard and acted upon. I am particularly proud of helping to deliver funding for health research at the University of Lethbridge. In the House of Commons, I serve as a leader on national defence issues.
I believe in relieving the tax burden on hardworking Canadian families, promoting smaller government, and taking a tough approach to crime. I’m running for reelection with Stephen Harper’s Conservatives because there is a lot that we need to do for Lethbridge and for Canada and you can be assured that I will be working hard to see it done.
