Maurice has a Master's degree from the Canadian Theological Seminary (University of Regina affiliated) and an earned doctoral degree from Trinity International University in Chicago. He has served as a pastor, a college teacher, and a health care worker.
Maurice entered public life as a Member of the Saskatoon District Health Board. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997, and has been re-elected since. As an MP, Maurice has been a strong voice for accountability as Deputy Critic for Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC) and Vice-Chair of the HRDC House Committee. He was later named Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Aboriginal Affairs.
Long active in his community, Maurice has been involved with the Canadian Palliative Care, Saskatchewan Landlords, Saskatchewan Taxpayers, Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters International, Focus on the Family and Real Choices Crisis Pregnancy Centre in Saskatoon.
Maurice and wife Mary have four children and three grandchildren.
