
Born in Toronto, Gord obtained a political science degree from Carleton University before settling in Gananoque, Ontario. With a long business experience, Gord owns a number of hotels, and restaurants as well as a recreation facility.
Twice elected to Gananoque Town Council, Gord served on the Economic Development Committee that created innovative techniques to attract new industries and jobs in the community. As a member of the Finance Committee, he helped slash municipal taxes.
Gord was first elected to the House of Commons in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006. He serves as Chair of the committee that is reviewing Canada’s Anti-Terrorism Act.
Gord has long been active in his community, including as a past President of the local Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission—which helped develop and promote Upper Canada Village and Fort Henry—and as a Director of the Leeds-Grenville United Way.
Active in sports, Gord was Canadian Kayaking Champion with the Gananoque Canoe Club. He plays hockey in the winter and golf in the summer.
Gord and his wife Sherry have one son, Chance.
