
Born and raised in the region, Scott obtained a Bachelor of Political Science and a Master’s of Russian History from Carleton University in Ottawa. He grew up in the Giant Tiger Stores family business, and has pursued a career dedicated to journalism, writing and public policy. Scott served as chief constitutional advisor to Preston Manning and taught at the University of Western Sydney in Australia.
Scott Reid is a noted authority on Canadian federalism, having written two books on the subject: “Lament for a Notion” and “Canada Remapped.”
Scott was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000, and has been re-elected since. He has served as Opposition Critic for Intergovernmental Affairs and Official Languages. He also played a pivotal role in the creation of the new Conservative Party of Canada.
Following the 2006 election, he was named Conservative Party Deputy House Leader.
Scott currently resides in Carleton Place.
