Our Conservative Government firmly believes that laws and sentencing decisions should protect the safety of Canadians.
Wednesday, Guy Turcotte, who was found not criminally responsible for stabbing his children 46 times, was released on the condition that he receive annual mental health checkups, undergoes therapy and doesn’t contact his ex-wife.
We believe that victims and their families shouldn’t have to live in fear.
In light of this, our Government will soon be introducing legislation aimed at addressing Canadians’ concerns about high-risk accused persons found not criminally responsible for their actions as a result of mental disorder.
This planned legislation will put public safety first and will address how these individuals will be dealt with by mental health review boards and courts.
Our Government is dedicated to ensuring that public safety and the rights of victims come first.
