FACT CHECK – NDP’s Carbon Tax Plan

NDP House Leader Nathan Cullen is misleading Canadians in his claim, today, that Thomas Mulcair won’t impose a job-killing carbon tax that would raise the price of everything, including gas, groceries, and hydro.
In his own words earlier this year, Nathan Cullen championed the idea of a carbon tax:
“I’m more of a cap-and-trade kind of guy. I think it’s a much more accurate assessment of full cost but, again, the point of the exercise is putting a price on carbon…” (The Uniter, February 29, 2012, http://uniter.ca/view/7393/)
A “price on carbon” is a tax on carbon. That makes it a carbon tax.
