Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada following the closing of the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating the Canadian Team following the closing of the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London.
“On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate the entire Canadian Paralympic Team on their tremendous performance at the London 2012 Summer Paralympic Games.
“I would also like to thank the many coaches, volunteers and family members who supported our athletes, in addition to the London organizing committee for hosting such memorable Games.
“We are extremely proud of our athletes who collectively won 7 gold, 15 silver and 9 bronze medals. This is a huge achievement, and their hard work and dedication has paid off.
During the closing ceremony, the Canadian team will be led by Canadian flag-bearer Benoît Huot, who won three medals during the games, represented Canada so well, and demonstrated the true spirit of Paralympic sport.
