Mr. Baird is a life-long resident of Nepean. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen’s University, John served as a Special Assistant to Perrin Beatty, then Canada’s Minister of Communications and Secretary of State for External Affairs.
John entered public life in 1995 as the Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding of Nepean. He was re-elected in 1999 and 2003. During his time at Queen’s Park, John served as Government House Leader, Minister of Community and Social Services and Minister of Energy.
He was first elected to the House of Common in 2006. As President of the Treasury Board, John became the face of the new Federal Accountability Act, the toughest anti-corruption legislation in Canadian history. He was later named Minister of the Environment.
John is a ten-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Nepean Branch), an honorary member of the Nepean Kiwanis, and a lifetime member of Canada’s largest Association for Community Living.
