Ray has been involved in federal and provincial politics for more than two decades. This has included Policy Development, Leadership campaigns, Fundraising and as a director of both federal and provincial District associations. He ran in two provincial elections for the Progressive Conservative party of Newfoundland and Labrador and served for three years as Policy Advisor to federal Minister John Crosbie. During the last four years he has served as the National Councilor for Newfoundland and Labrador and been a member of the Policy and Candidate Selection sub committees.

Ray has a Science degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and his career has involved public service activities, for a few years as a teacher-high school principal, 20 years with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, ten years with the province of NL, most of which time he was the Deputy Minister of Fisheries. He was also the Director off Industry and Government Relations with Atlantic Canada’s largest fish Company—Fishery Products International for five years. Currently he is an advisor to the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board and the Chair of the Board’s Fisheries Advisory Committee. He is currently a Director of the NL Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation. He is also president of his own Consulting Company—Andrews Port Services Ltd, primarily involved with Fisheries and Marine Policy and Planning assignments.

Ray has a long association with numerous Boards and Committees. He has also had extensive involvement in the Volunteer community with such groups as Red Cross and Prostate Cancer Support. He has been especially active in the Faith based Community, serving as a director of the Social Committee of national Evangelical Fellowship Committee and in numerous positions at his local church.

Ray is married to Joyce (nee Stevens) , having two children and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently, currently residing in St. John’s.
