He graduated from high school in Moncton and completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax. In his 19 year career, Ian has been a management consultant, a commercial banker with Barclays Bank of Canada, TD Bank and Royal Bank, and has worked in Halifax, St. John’s, and Fredericton. He moved back to New Brunswick in 2003, where he became an active member and Director of the Fredericton Conservative Association, serving as its President for three years from 2006 to 2009. The highlight of his tenure as President was the 2008 federal election which saw Fredericton elect the Hon. Keith Ashfield, its first Conservative MP in 15 years. Ian has also represented New Brunswick on the National Policy Committee since April 2010, and was acclaimed National Councillor for the province in January 2011. Ian is also an active member of the PC Party of New Brunswick where he has undertaken several responsibilities over the years, most recently in the 2010 Provincial Election where he worked on the campaign platform, and as Official Agent for his successfully elected candidate.

Ian is married to Katie (nee Barber) of Oakville, Ontario, and they have two sons, Samuel and William. They reside in Chipman, Queens County, on a farm which has been in the Baird family since 1820.
